Klimt’s Cherry Kiss

Curator’s Notes:

In The Kiss (1907–08), Gustav Klimt crafts a love story in gold leaf, ornament, and velvet closeness — a moment rich with passion, pattern, and unspoken longing. Wrapped in gilded embrace, his lovers dissolve into something greater: decadent, intimate, and timeless. It is romance as both art and indulgence — opulent, intense, and sealed with a kiss.

Ingredients

  • Vanilla Cake
  • Cherry Curd
  • Chocolate Fudge
  • Extra Dark Chocolate Chips
  • Cardamom

Flavour Harmony

  • Chocolate fudge and extra dark chocolate chips: decadence folded into texture, reflecting the luxurious layers and ornamental detail woven through The Kiss.

  • Cherry and dark chocolate: a duet of passion and intensity, mirroring Klimt’s rich reds and gilded decadence.

  • Vanilla cake and a hint of cardamom: soft and comforting at first, then an unexpected aromatic twist with a gentle hint of cardamom spice — mirroring the tenderness of the embrace intertwined with Klimt’s exotic, patterned complexity.

Interpretation: To me, The Kiss isn’t just a moment in time — it’s a celebration of indulgence, closeness, and leaning gleefully into life’s sweetest impulses. Klimt’s Cherry Kiss captures that same mood: a decadent little love story in cake form, where chocolate is lavish, cherries are dramatic, and restraint simply does not get invited.

There’s a joyous theatricality to it — bold flavours meeting tender spice, a swirl of romance wrapped in something a little hypnotic, a little excessive, and entirely delicious.

Like Klimt’s gilded lovers lost in their universe of pattern and glow, these cakepopz exist in their own world too: slightly impractical, a touch dream-like, and delightfully over the top. Each one a tiny kiss of sweetness, reminding us that sometimes the best things in life aren’t neat, subtle, or sensible — they’re a bit messy, a bit extra, and unapologetically adored.
